Scones
I never really had "proper" scones growing up. I want to say I had them at the farm a few times but that could be my imagination. we used to get them from the grocery store bakery but I now know these weren't quite the same as "proper" scones. The first time I really remember having "proper" scones is when I lived in the UK and had afternoon tea. And after that there was no going back. But please do not ask me which comes first, the clotted cream or the jam.

This is a recipe in my auntie Lily's cookbook. I am not quite sure about her "shaping" instructions but they turned out alright, just a bit on the small side.
Ingredients

2 cups of flour
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
4 tbsp shortening
1 egg (beaten)
1/3 cup milk

Preparation
Mix together the flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in the shortening and you have a crumb like texture. Add the egg and milk and mix. Roll out until it is half an inch thick. Cut in long strips and then brush with milk, sprinkle with sugar and place on a greased baking sheet. cook for 10-15 minutes at 425 F.
