Gingerbread

I recently made this for the first time.  In fact it was my first recipe I had attempted to make out of Lily’s cookbook. I had never had real ginger “bread” before but I think Great Grandma Seel liked her gingerbread to be a bit stronger on the molasses than I do but otherwise it turned out alright.

Ingredients

½ cup butter

½ cup brown sugar

¾ cup molasses

1 ¾ cup sifted flour

1 ½ tsp baking soda

¼ tsp baking powder

1 ½ tsp ginger

1 tsp salt

1 tsp cinnamon

¼ tsp cloves

2 eggs

¾ cup boiling water

Preparation

Grease a 9 inch square pan. Mix the ingredients together and then pour into the pan.  Cook for 45 minutes at 350 F.
